September 2024 | Argentina's participation at workshop on agricultural biotechnology

The Argentine Ambassador Gustavo Alberto Martino and the Head of the Economic Section Juan Pablo Volken attended the workshop on Plant Breeding Innovations for Sustainable Agriculture and Agroeconomic Development, which took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Bangkok.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand in collaboration with the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Asia Pacific Seed Alliance (APSA), the Thai Seed Trade Association (THASTA) and Crop Life.

This event was intended to enhance awareness and understanding of the role of genome editing in improving plant varieties and productivity in the context of climate change, following recent positive developments in Thailand involving the promotion of modern biotechnology.

Argentina is one of the pioneering and leading countries in the development and safe use of agricultural biotechnology, which brings about an increase in productivity and improvements in the quality of life of farmers, and is sustainable with regard to protection of the environment.

CONABIA (National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology) was designated in 2014 as a Reference Center in matters of biosafety by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and this designation was renewed in 2019.
