On March 10, the Argentine Embassy participated in the opening ceremony of Thai-Latin Coffee+ Plus Weeks, an activity organized by the Latin American Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in collaboration with the Embassies of Latin American countries in Bangkok and the Asia-Pacific Development Centre on Disability (APCD).
The activity consists of the promotion and sale of coffee and other beverages donated by each of the Embassies -in addition to Thai coffee- from March 10 to 21 at the Buakaew Brew Café. The funds raised will be dedicated to support the café’s mission of promoting inclusivity and empowerment through its partnership with APCD.
Although our country is not known for its coffee production due to climatic reasons, the Argentine Embassy took advantage of this opportunity to promote Argentine yerba mate -the healthy alternative to coffee- and donated yerba mate bags, kindly supplied by the importing company Latino Secrets for sales at the Buakeaw Brew Café.
At the opening ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Chargé d'Affaires Javier De Cicco briefed the audience on the importance of yerba mate in Argentine culture, the different drinks that can be brewed with yerba mate, and the numerous scientifically-demonstrated health benefits of yerba mate.
Some distance away, Pablo and Kritsana Serafini from Latino Secrets demonstrated how to prepare one of these drinks (the traditional “mate”, using the gourd and the “bombilla” -straw-) and served each of the guests both this traditional “mate” and “mate cocido”, another popular drink, prepared with yerba mate bags.
We would like to thank the Latin American Division and the APCD for organizing this event, Argentina’s Yerba Mate National Institute (INYM) for its collaboration with this initiative, and Latino Secrets for its participation and generous contribution.
