November 2024 | Screening of film "My best enemy" at Chulalongkorn University

The Embassies of Argentina and Chile in Thailand, in collaboration with the Spanish Section of Chulalongkorn University, held the screening of the film "My Best Enemy" in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Argentina and Chile, at the Faculty of Arts, on November 13.

The film is set in 1978, when Argentina and Chile were on the brink of a war that was prevented at the last minute thanks to the mediation of the Vatican, which paved the way for the resumption of a diplomatic dialogue that led to the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1984.

The characters are a group of Argentine and Chilean soldiers who, in the context of the imminent war, first meet as enemies and then realize that they have much more in common than they believe.

In his opening remarks, the Head of the Political Section Javier de Cicco highlighted that "this treaty put an end to decades of mistrust between two neighboring countries and set the ground for a dramatic expansion of the bilateral relation," also emphasizing the importance of "always seeking peace until the last moment."

For his part, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Chilean Embassy David Hansen valued that the Treaty of Peace and Friendship "not only was a turning point in our shared history (…) but it also demonstrated that dialogue is the only way to find lasting peaceful solutions to conflicts between countries."

We thank the Embassy of Chile and the Spanish Section of Chulalongkorn University for organizing this screening, as well as the students, teachers and external audience who attended.
